A woman who ran a brothel in Bradley Stoke has been ordered to repay £1,115 and given a one year community order.
An investigation was launched earlier this year after reports were received of men calling at an address in Boursland Close and that young women were also seen there. Enquiries suggested the address was being used as a brothel.
A warrant was executed at the address and Jana Chmelickova, aged 46 and from Boursland Close, was subsequently charged with keeping a brothel. During the warrant £1,115 cash was found at the premises.
Jana Chmelickova appeared at Bristol Crown Court today (Thursday May 2) and was given a one-year community order and subject to a curfew for three months. The court heard that Chmelickova’s benefit from crime was £1,115 and the cash was confiscated under the Proceeds of Crime Act.

Wheatfield had a very special visitor today – Mr Jack Lopresti, our local MP. Mr Lopresti joined them for their Friday morning Celebration Assembly during which the Bike It! crew gave a road safety presentation and the choir gave a fantastic rendition of ‘Sing’ – the Jubilee Song.
Mr Lopresti also spent time being quizzed about his roles and responsibilities as an MP by the School Council. At the start of the day he walked along Wheatfield Drive with 2 of the school governors to review the issues with the flow of traffic and parking in the local area and promised to convey any concerns to the Local Authority. Later in the day Mr Lopresti tweeted that the highlight of his visit was presenting the ‘Golden Boots Award’ to 5R.

Cyclists inSouth Gloucestershireare are set to benefit from safer roads thanks to a funding boost from the Government’s Cycle Safety Fund.
The council has been awarded £100,000 by the Department for Transport towards the cost of a £275,000 scheme to improve sections of the A38 in Filton and Patchway.
The proposed works will include new crossings, cycle paths and additional signage for sections of the A38 that pose particular safety risks for cyclists.
The proposals will be put out to consultation before work begins and it is hoped that the scheme will be completed by the end of the year.
Chair of the council’s Planning and Transportation Committee CllrBrian Allinsonsaid: “This is very welcome news. The council is committed to promoting cycling as a healthy and environmentally-friendly alternative to the car and we have already invested significant sums in the district’s cycle and walking network.
“With this additional funding boost we will be able to improve cyclists’ safety at known danger spots where cyclists cross or join the A38. The additional measures will make it easier for cyclists to navigate busy junctions, and to use off-road cycle and walk ways on some highway stretches.”
South Gloucestershire Council has invested significantly in the district’s cycle infrastructure in recent years as part of the jointCycling Cityproject with Bristol City Council.
The council has also recently announced a further £900,000 in improvements to three key cycle and pedestrian routes (Parkway to Cribbs Causeway, Lockleaze to Cribbs Causeway and Lockleaze to Parkway) supported by funding from the Government’s Local Sustainable Transport Fund.

Dozens of parents and pupils from Holy Trinity Primary School braved the cold weather today, to take part in the school’s Annual Easter Bonnet walk to school.
Eager children met up with teachers at Aldi’s car park, compared their home-made bonnet creations, and enjoyed a fun and colourful walk to school via Primrose Bridge. There was a great atmosphere, and most of the children appeared to enjoy the early-morning exercise. Many children (and their parents and grand-parents no doubt) had put a huge amount of effort into their costumes.
The Friends of Holy Trinity Primary School have kindly bought chocolate Easter Eggs for pupils, and will be presenting them later today.

As we come into what is suppose to be SPRING with its zero temperatures, we take a look how local football club Bradley Stoke Town FC have been performing on and off the field.
Only in recent weeks have the Bradley Stoke sides started being able to compete in matches again after a long hard autumn and winter of constantly postponed matches. Although the players’ resilience shined through as members of the squad such as Ben Osborne and Dan Baker organised 5 a side tournaments at the local all weather pitches. These competitions kept the players fit and helped maintain a competitive edge while Savages Wood pitches were either frozen, covered in snow or under an inch of water!
BSTFC is a very social club and, as with every year, there have been a number of social events over the winter months. The Club said goodbye to long serving player Matthew Corney with a big leaving night out as he was about to travel to Australia and survive out there for at least a year… Or so was thought as he was back with the club within 8 days!!!! He must have missed the lads massively! The annual Christmas Party was organised by social secretary Brad Clark and involved a meal at a Casino in the centre before moving on to a few watering holes. The most recent event was a Race Night held at the Community Centre (lovingly referred to as the Hornets Nest), organised by James Collis-Pritchard. There was a good turn out from all players and a good £300 was raised for the Club through the event. The end of season tour has also been announced which will involve the Club visiting Manchester.
Now to on the pitch! The 1st Team didn’t play at all between the end of November until the end of January. The first game back saw that some rust had built up on the team over the winter with a 2-2 result against Seymour Reserves. However, after another postponement the team came back stronger when they managed a draw against 2nd placed side De Vays and haven’t looked back by picking up impressive wins again Portville Warriors and Talbot Knowle. With the win against Portville being voted “Performance of the week” on the local sports website Bristol-Soccerworld. Jon Welsh summed up the last couple of months with the following words, “After a frustrating start to the season with injuries the first team have slowly gelled and become a difficult unit to beat. Having been promoted a division this season it was always going to be hard but early good performances were not reflected in the number of points gained. Since November the 1sts have only been beaten once and this is down to a settled side and a more compact team formation. The team have beaten some of the top teams so the potential for success is there. If the team can attain a top five finish this year then it will be a good first year and a solid base on which to build.”
The Reserves (who are sponsored by Bradley Stoke Matters!) have started picking up the points too. After a 3-1 loss against bottom side Brislington Cricketers at the start of January, the Reserves are now unbeaten in their last 4 matches. Including the high scoring 7-1 win against Talbot Knowle United which saw veteran striker Carl O’Connell bagging himself 4 goals. Still with a number of matches ahead of them, the Reserves can actually make a late push to get themselves into a promotion winning position. Both co-Managers Ben Pearce and James Collis-Pritchard are confident that this side can build on the confidence gained from the recent run to continue the good form till the end of the season.
The A Team have been an unpredictable side this season and this has been the same case over the last few months. In the last few matches the co-Managers Mark Wilkes and Chris Lassett haven’t known what performance their team will produce. A great example of this is the two matches in which they have had to play bottom side Yate A’s who until the away game had not claimed a point. However, a poor performance from the A’s saw them only managed a 3-3 draw after being 3-0 down. Then this weekend when playing the same side they produced a confident display and thrashed Yate 4-1. They hope to see some better performances to end the season on a high and re group ready for next season’s challenge.
The B Team have continued to put in good performances and yet not got the rewards in the form of the results. In the last couple of weeks they have seen defeats against the top two sides by just the odd goal when manager Steve Kerton has felt 3 points could have been collected. Although the signs are good for the B Team who have a very young and developing side. There are a number of players in the team showing that they can progress up the squad hierarchy and Steve Kerton said “The future of the club looks so promising as the development squad is improving faster than we could ever have imagined. “

1st Team v Portville Warriors (Win 2-0)
An impressive win for the 1st Team, which saw them inflict only the second defeat of the season for Portville. Goals being scored by Andy Turner and Lucas Entoundi.
Reserves Team v Bishopsworth United (Win 1-0)
A good win for the Reserves as they extend their recent unbeaten run. Although the Reserves would have felt that the scoreline did not match their performance as numerous chances went begging. The only goal of the game came from a goalmouth scrabble which saw a Bishopsworth player put the ball into his own net.
A Team v Yate Ath (Draw 3-3)
Disappointing result for the A Team who only managed a draw against the bottom side of the division. Although it could have been a lot worse with the A Team being down 3-1 at one point. Dan Baker scored a fantastic goal for the A Team side.
B Team v Doddington (Lose 1-0)
A good performance against run away division leaders. The B Team on another day would have got a result against the away side. However, it was Doddington who took all 3 points and with that became the division champions before the end of February!

The Three Brooks Nature Conservation Group today donated a special bird box to Bradley Stoke Leisure Centre, marking the end of National Nest Box Week.
The nest box has an in-built camera to watch the birds inside and will be placed on a suitable wall on the Centre, so that the live feed can be shown on screens in the cafe and the library.
The box was provided from a donation given to the group by Martin Davis, author of the book ‘The Farmer and the Goose with the Golden Eyes.’ In 1931, Martin’s father, Howard Davis, started what has now become the Three Brooks Nature Reserve.
James Lewington, the Duty Manager said, “This is a great (and warm) way for our visitors to be close to nature but without the birds being disturbed.”
The Three Brooks Nature Conservation Group was formed in February 2005 with the aim of conserving and enhancing the Three Brooks Local Nature Reserve for the benefit of local residents and wildlife in Bradley Stoke. They are a small, friendly group of volunteers who meet up on the first Saturday of the month to work on the reserve. They also organise free guided walks around the reserve, the next one being a Dawn Chorus on 5th May, 6.00am – 8.30am or (if you prefer a lie in) there is always the Wildlife Walk on Fathers Day 16thJune, from 10am to 1pm. What better way for the youngsters to spend some quality outdoor time with Dad! For both walks meet up outside the Leisure Centre.
For more information on the Three Brooks Conservation Group, check out their website here.

The Reserves’ game was the only one of all the BSTFC Teams to escape postponement this weekend and so had a good crowd of support from the club. Hoping to kick on from their great 7-1 result the previous week, the first 20 minutes of the matched look promising for the Reserves.
It was the Reserves who were creating the chances with good play down both wings and the threat of
Matt Smith and
Chris Hughes through the middle. Eventually the Ressies did break the deadlock and it was all down to the hard work of
Carl O’Connell. Closing down the keeper and forcing an error, O’Connell calmly chipped the ball over the Soundwell keeper from 25 yards out.
This should have been a platform for the Reserves to launch themselves from but unfortunately they allowed Soundwell back into the game. A corner fell to the Soundwell player on the edge of the 18 yard area. He was allowed to take a touch and shot which hit the inside of the post but fell to a fellow Soundwell player who had an easy tap in.
After the half time break it was Soundwell who had the majority of the possession but the Bradley Stoke side having the better chances. The Reserves lost winger Zobir Homoyoun to injury which saw the introduction of Sam Chillcott. The Reserves were now boasting a forward front line of 3 players whose combined age work out at triple figures!
The Reserves continued to be a danger to the Soundwell goal with Matt Smith having a goal disallowed for offside and players Adam Sykes, O’Connell, Chillcott coming close and may have had the chance to do better.
The game finished 1-1, with the home side travelling to Bishopsworth next week for what is sure to be a tough test.

We were delighted to receive a letter from the children at Bailey’s Court Primary School letting us know that the school has been awarded its second Green Flag of the Eco Schools Awards! The school achieved its first Green Flag in 2010 and has worked hard to continue and build upon the school’s green learning and developments. The school has a keen and dedicated Green Team which is made up of children from Year 1 to Year 6. The Green Team meets fortnightly to discuss ways to promote sustainability and to make the school as environmentally friendly as possible. Projects are led by the children from conception to delivery.
Since the last Green Flag, was awarded the Green Team has supported big projects in the school including installing a wind turbine, helping with the new butterfly hide and garden and providing a new home for the school chickens. Smaller projects have involved encouraging staff and children to recycle more by providing a new staffroom recycling bin and recycling bags for the school kitchen/classroom. Litter picks have helped to reduce litter in the school environment, as have the new pencil bins on playground which were bought with funds raised by the team.
As well as organising and leading projects, the Green Team has many ongoing tasks that they fulfil brilliantly. Each week, ‘Eco-Spywork’ (where the team monitor how effectively each class is turning off lights etc), meter readings, fruit composting and data analysis takes place.
The school celebrated their new achievement by asking members of the Green Team to raise the new Green Flag on the flagpole situated in the playground on Wednesday 6th February (pictured).

Gym goers at Bradley Stoke Leisure Centre can now benefit from a £115,000 makeover and expansion of the facility following a public consultation that showed overwhelming support for the changes. The floor space of the gym has been increased by 40% and 20 new pieces of state-of-the-art Techno-Gym equipment have been installed.
Demand for studio cycling at the centre has increased in recent times. As such, the cycling studio has been upgraded with the inclusion of 10 new bikes. In line with the current fitness trends the Trust has also added a brand new “functional fitness” area. Functional fitness is the latest trend incorporating different equipment such as ropes and kettlebells, which allows people to focus on movement and core strength.
In order to expand the gym the Trust took the decision to permanently close the under-used Rivers Health Suite. This decision was taken after a consultation asking customers for feedback. The overwhelming majority (more than 90%) were in favour of closing the health suite and expanding the gym.
Mark Crutchley, chief executive of Circadian Trust the not-for-profit social enterprise which runs the leisure centres in South Gloucestershire, commented: “As a social enterprise we are always looking for ways to encourage more people to improve their health by participating in exercise. The Rivers Health Suite was drastically under-utilised with only 11 members signed up to use the facility regularly. The consultation told us that our customers wanted new improved gym facilities. These improvements mean that the Trust will can continue to provide the latest equipment and service suitable for the needs of the local community.”
Five-time British Judo Champion, and coach at Bradley Stoke Judo Club, Pete Douglas opened the gym last night (5 February). The night gave new customers the opportunity to try the facilities with free Functional Fitness demonstration classes, and two free studio cycling sessions.
Bradley Stoke Judo Club (BSJC) has been using the facilities at Bradley Stoke Leisure centre for 12 years, and is one of the most successful clubs in Great Britain. Since coaching at BSJC, Pete Douglas has trained more than 20 juniors to England and Great Britain level, and 15 seniors to Dan grade.
Pete Douglas said: “Local leisure facilities, like Bradley Stoke Leisure Centre, play such an important role in keeping young people active. It is important that the facilities are kept state-of-the-art and are continually being invested in. The new gym opening marks a big investment into future health and wellbeing of the community.”
